How My Military Experience Led Me to Champion Women in Traditionally Male-Dominated Fields
As the founder of this non-profit, my journey has been shaped by resilience and determination. From my time in the military as an avionic communication equipment repairer to becoming the only female electrician in a male-dominated workplace, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges. In this blog post, I’ll share how my personal experiences led me to start this organization and why I’m committed to empowering women in STEM.
My journey started in the Army, where I had the privilege of working with highly technical systems, developing skills that would shape my career. However, after transitioning to civilian life and continuing in the Department of Defense, I found myself often standing alone as the only woman in a field dominated by men. As the only female electrician in my workplace for 15 years, I faced daily battles with sexism and racism that pushed me to my limits. Yet, instead of breaking me, these struggles strengthened my resolve to make a difference.
After a medical retirement, I realized I could use my experiences to help women who were facing similar obstacles. This is when I founded our nonprofit—aimed at providing women with the tools they need to succeed in STEM and beyond. My goal is to ensure no woman ever feels like she has to fight alone to pursue her dreams in fields where she's underrepresented.
